Computational Mathematics for Innovative Companies

IMACS is for "Ingénierie MAthématique et Calcul Scientifique"

IMACS is a research and technology provider with activities centered on scientific computing and mathematical engineering. IMACS originated as a spin-off from Ecole Polytechnique, Centre de Mathématiques Appliquées. IMACS offers products and services ranging from consultancy to software development, deployment, maintenance and support to end users.

IMACS has developed over the last 20 years a portfolio of services and specialized products for numerical simulation and statistical analyses. IMACS provides its products and services to leading companies in automotive, aerospace and defence, energy...

Innovation in numerical modelling and High Performance Computing is at work at IMACS.

New Numerical Methods and HPC solvers for demanding applications

Development of new numerical methods and their parallel implementation:

  • Boundary Element Methods (BEM): new formulations in the time and frequency domains;
  • Fast solvers: H-matrix, Fast Multipole Method (FMM) and their coupling;
  • Multi-method and multi-physics couplings in linear and nonlinear cases (DGM, FEM, BEM, TLM, circuit solvers...;
  • Algorithms for CAD/CAE link, simplification, meshing...
  • Adaptive meshing procedures based on a poteriori estimates for FEM and BEM;
  • Optimisation algorithms;
  • Algorithms for data analysis, reliability, sensitivity, meta-modelling, uncertainty management...

Numerical Modelling for Industrial Applications

Development of new methodologies and computation chains:

  • material modelling: innovative acoustic liners and CFRP composites for aeronautic industry, meta-materials for antennas and stealth applications...
  • electromagnetic modelling of complex systems: electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), lightning indirect effects (LIE), high-intensity radiated fields (HIRF), antenna modelling and antenna siting, radar cross section (RCS)...
  • vibro-acoustic modelling in frequency domain ou time domain (retarded potentials);
  • non-destructive testing (NDT) based on eddy current or ultrasound.

SONATE©: a unique Time Domain BEM solver for vibro-acoustics

Building on research lead at the Centre de Mathématiques Appliquées of the Ecole Polytechnique (CMAP) under supervision of Prof. Jean-Claude Nédélec, IMACS has been the first company to develop and propose a robust Time Domain BEM solver, providing a new tool SONATE© used in industry for simulations in acoustics, and which proves to be much more efficient and precise for multi-frequency problems than existing tools. Following the success of SONATE© in automotive applications (PSA Peugeot-Citroën and Renault), a partnership has been signed with LMS International, the world leader in acoustic simulations. SONATE© is integrated in the CATIA V5 based platform LMS Virtual.Lab® since Rev9, and distributed worldwide by LMS Intl now Siemens Industry Software.
